Stephen Walkley is the hard-working, local candidate for the Liberal Democrats in the Lutterworth East by-election on Thursday 2nd July.

A by-election was called in the Lutterworth East ward of Harborough District Council, following the sad death of Cllr David Gair.

Liberal Democrat candidate, Stephen Walkley has lived locally for over 30 years.  He is passionate about Lutterworth and has always worked for the local community. He was Chair of the Town Hall Charity, raising funds for a new lift, registering the hall as a wedding venue and getting the sign-writing on the hall.  He was also Treasurer of Lutterworth Cricket Club for 13 years. He shops and socialises in Lutterworth and can often to be seen in the Unicorn pub. He is a lifelong Leicester Tigers season ticket holder.

He is also a member of the Leicestershire & Rutland Wildlife Trust and works hard to protect the local environment and local areas of beauty.

He has been campaigning for the Lutterworth East development, which was agreed by the Conservative administration to work for the people of Lutterworth.  He wants the development to include a proper by-pass for Lutterworth town centre, rather than the spine road currently planned.  He also wants there  to be affordable housing for the people of Lutterworth, not just warehouses. 

Stephen is also lobbying for a proper cottage hospital with beds for the town, so that relatives do not have to travel to Leicester or Nuneaton to visit patients.

He also emphasised the importance of standing up to the divisive politics of Reform UK:

“Supporting the Liberal Democrats is a powerful way to stand up for fairness, inclusivity, and evidence-based policy — values that oppose the fear-driven rhetoric of Reform.”

Lib Dems are the only party that can beat Reform UK here.  Last time Labour and the Liberal Democrats won seats here.  With the chaos in the Labour party nationally they have lost support here.

If Stephen were elected he would be the kind of councillor who listens to what people need and who fights to get it.
